50mm f/1.8 Sample Shots

January 9th, 2009

So a couple of days ago, I decided to go out and buy something to suppress my want for the $$ equipment on my wish list.

The cheapest thing I could find that would entertain me just long enough was the Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens. When I say cheap, I mean disposable cheap. However, this lens packs a lot of punch for what you pay!

With such a large aperture and, subsequently, a shallow depth of field it makes for some very interesting shots. The large aperture also allows you to take more hand-held photos in lower light situations. Also, a 50mm on my 1.6 crop body camera would equate to 80mm – a great focal length for portrait photography! Read the rest of this entry »

Happy Birthday Brady!

January 8th, 2009

Just wanted to wish Brady a Happy Birthday!

Check out the pictures of our slight debauchery at Joey’s last night. All-in-all, it was a fun night – we had the big private room to ourselves… team this up with a camera, and you get the silly pictures you see in the gallery!

These pictures were taken with my new Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens! I was avoiding my flash, so I had to bump up the ISO to 1600 on my XTi – hence the noisy/blurred images!

Reflecting Cheaper Light [Updated]

January 6th, 2009

After doing some research today regarding different brands of collapsible light reflectors, I learned the following:

I just placed an order on eBay for a 43″/5 in 1 Collapsible Light Reflecting Disc for a whopping $24, shipping included! The same type of contraption form my local camera store was selling for $169!

I’ll update this post once I receive the reflector and test it out!

[Update 2009/01/26] I received the reflector about a week or so ago, however I haven’t really had a chance to test it out. Check back for some pictures and overall thoughts regarding quality etc…

iPhone Charger Recall – How to Get it Replaced

January 3rd, 2009

For all you iPhone owners out there, make sure you replace your wall charger if it doesn’t have a “green dot” on the side where the charger plugs into the wall (see the picture below). Click here for recall details from Apple.

iPhone Wall Charger

iPhone Wall Charger

I personally kept forgetting to do this until yesterday.

Getting it replaced is easy. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Take your iPhone + charger with you. No you don’t need to bring the cable with you.
  2. Go to the Apple store nearest you. For those without an Apple store you can do it online by clicking here (then skip to step 5).
  3. Go to the cash register in the Apple store.
  4. Tell them you want to replace your recalled charger.
  5. They will ask you for your iPhone serial number (Settings > General > About). If doing it online, then you will also need the last 4 digits of your iPhone’s IMEI number – it can be found in the same place you found the serial number. Note, I have not done it online, so this is as far as I can take you!
  6. That’s it!

Now that wasn’t too hard was it? Pass the message on to any of your friends who are as lazy as me!

Happy New Year!

December 31st, 2008

I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy and healthy 2009!

Seeing as I have a very busy agenda while I’m here in Prisonto (Travis, that was for you), you should all be happy that I had a moment to punch one out on my iPhone!

However, I must now return back to confinement for the duration of the evening, and possibly the entire day tomorrow.

But hey! Happy new year!

The Great Glass Debate – Part 1

December 29th, 2008

As part of my ambition towards becoming a better photographer, upgrading my equipment became imminent. After getting (placing on my Christmas list) “The Digital Photography Book“, by Scott Kelby, and talking to a few people, I quickly realized that upgrading my “Glass” (Lenses) and investing in, and using,  a half decent tripod will help get me to the next level. The New OHmyEYE!

December 27th, 2008

After months and months of laziness,  the stale factor of OHmyEYE reached new bounds and limits – in fact, the “How stale is OHmyeEYE poll” itself got stale.

So, to start off a new year, and a new direction for this website, I’m going to be trying out the “blog” style for OHmyEYE. I know I’ve missed the train, that the world doesn’t need another blog out there , and that I’ve lost all my previous visitors.

My goal for this site is to focus on things that interest me – electronics (gadgets), my new found interest in photography, and things going on in my life.

Here’s to trying something new!
